Gila Ridge cheer finishes seventh at Nationals

GRHS team photo The Gila Ridge High School varsity cheerleading team recently competed on the national stage this past weekend in Anaheim, California. The Hawks spirit squad were participants in the 2020 USA Spirit Nationals in the Small Co-Ed Varsity Show Cheer Advanced division.

Over the course of two days the Hawks performed twice in front of judges and came away with a flawless performance and no point deductions. The Hawks made the cut after day one to perform in the finals on day two where they once again had no deductions and finished seventh in the nation.

The Hawks are led by coach Sarah Dains and compete in a variety of competitions throughout the year, with this being their first team competition on the national level. They previously competed in the Stunt team division in 2019 and Dains is proud of how her team performed.

"It was a tough and tight competition, only 0.3 points separated seventh place from fourth place,” said Dains. “We couldn't be prouder of our kids and how they performed this weekend.”
