Gila Ridge baseball players selected to All-Star and All-State teams

The Gila Ridge High School baseball season may be over, but the awards keep coming in.

Following the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association State meetings on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Apollo High School in Glendale, Arizona, numerous Hawks were announced as All-State selections as well as participants in the Senior All-Star game.

Catcher Ryan Hoskins was chosen to First-Team All-State and the 4A Conference Senior All-Star Game. Hoskins was already voted as the Region Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Region.

Dale Tshigg was chosen as Second-Team All-State after being voted as the Region Player of the Year. GRHS baseball players collage

Seniors Jordan Canales and Andres Cota were also chosen to play in the 4A All-Star Game and James Kuzniak was chosen as Head Coach for the 4A North All-Star Team.

“It’s definitely an honor to be the coach of this game and get to see the best players in the state playing together,” said Kuzniak. “Having a chance to coach these three guys one more time in a Gila Ridge uniform will be special. Getting chosen to participate in this game with players from all around is a great experience for these three and I am excited for them to receive this opportunity”.

The 4A All-Star game will be played on May 25, 2019 at 4 p.m. at Goodyear Stadium, the spring training home for the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians.

The Hawks finished the season 17-7 overall and 12-6 in AIA PowerPoint games on their way to winning the Region Championship as well as a play-in round victory that advanced them to the 16-team 4A State Tournament for the first time since 2016.
