Gila Ridge softball follows successful season with multiple region honors

Gila Ridge High School softball won multiple end-of-season awards as voted on by the 4A Southwest Region coaches.

Tinley Schmidgall (.567 average), Sherlyn Molina (.444 average), Amanda Rubida (.573 average), Alyssa Darby (.633 average), and Hannah Evans-Tapia (.426 average) were all voted as First-Team All-Region. GRHS softball team photo

Cassidy Stanton (.423 average), Carmen Melendez (.465 average), Hailey Matthews (.383 average) and Tamia Butler (.521 average) were voted Second-Team All-Region.

Amanda Rubida was also voted as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Briona Marini (.389 average) and Elysa Moreno (.3985 average) were Honorable Mention selections for the All-Region teams.

First-year head coach Courtney Reed led the Hawks to a 15-3 record in AIA powerpoint games and went 8-0 in 4A Southwest Region play. The Hawks advanced to the state tournament, but were defeated in the first round by Douglas High School, 2-1, in nine innings. It is the second consecutive season the Hawks have lost in the opening round by one run.
