Gila Ridge teacher wins fourth One Class at a Time Award for YUHSD

Gila Ridge High School Career & Technical Education teacher James Kuzniak won the February "One Class at a Time" award from KECY Fox 9, sponsored by Children's Dental Pediatric Specialist Dr. John Kempton. James Kuzniak receives his check from Dr. Kempton

“One Class at a Time” is a program to help fulfill needs of local schools in Yuma County. The campaign awards $500 every month identifying and funding applications for classroom projects throughout Yuma County schools.

“I work with film and TV production and digital photography,” said Kuzniak, who was surprised with an oversized check in the Gila Ridge office. “We do a lot of interviews and we need microphones to conduct the interviews. This will help us get the equipment that the students need.”

Kuzniak is the fourth teacher to win the award this year from Yuma Union High School District. He is the first Gila Ridge teacher to be awarded since 2017-18. Special Education teacher Tayde Lund was the winner for the month of August, Jonica Flores won for the month of October, and Andres Preciado won for the month of January. All three previous YUHSD winners this year work at Cibola High School.
