Gila Ridge basketball senior to play at Arizona Western College

Gila Ridge High School girls basketball player Hanah Sims has signed her letter of intent to play basketball at Arizona Western College next fall.

Sims is a four-year starter for the Hawks and has excelled not only on the court, but also on the track in multiple events as well as maintaining a 3.95 GPA.

“Signing with AWC is so exciting to me because I get to continue to play a sport I love at the next level,” said Sims. “Not a lot of people get this opportunity so I’m grateful I get to experience it.”

Sims will play at Arizona Western for coach Patrick Cunningham who will enter his 21st season at the helm for the Matadors. AWC has had 19 consecutive seasons of at least 17 wins.

“Coach Cunningham got a terrific player and an even better person,” Gila Ridge head coach Bill Reinson said. “Hanah is talented and committed. She will be a great addition to the AWC program.”

The Hawks entered Tuesday with a 9-4 record overall in third place of the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s 4A Southwest Conference. Sims is among the team leaders in multiple statistical categories.

As a junior Sims was named first team All-Region for the Hawks, and was an Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore.
