Hawks basketball boosters to donate concession funds to student in need

Proceeds from the concession stand sales by the Hawks booster club at all three levels of the Gila Ridge High School boys basketball games versus Cibola High School on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 will be donated to help Gila Ridge student Kate Campa.

Campa, a freshman at Gila Ridge, is a member of student council who is suffering from Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment under the care of Phoenix Children's Hospital.

The basketball booster club came to the idea of donating proceeds to help the Campa family and voted to donate all of their proceeds to this cause. “We felt that it is the right thing to do,” said Booster Club Treasurer Kristan Sheppard. “Kate is an amazing young lady who is always at basketball, football and any other game on campus. We as a community need to come together to help this special girl out in whatever way we can.”

The community is invited to attend the games, with freshmen tipping off at 4 p.m., junior varsity at 5:30 p.m., and varsity at 7 p.m.  Price of admission is $5. All concession stand proceeds will be donated.

Gila Ridge head coach Joe Daily is supportive of the fundraiser. “Kate is a great kid and someone we all know and love, and we want to do whatever we can do to help.”

Those wishing to donate, can attend on Friday or do so on Campa’s Go Fund Me page at the following web address:

To date there have been many fundraisers and other activities to help, Mostly Muffins who hosted a takeover, CrossFit Hidden Valley hosted a special workout fundraiser, Gila Ridge Student Council has been selling Team Kate bracelets. The Gila Ridge Dance Team and booster club also hosted a BBQ plate dinner fundraiser along with Denisse Romero, the owner of Bee Bee’s Academy, while Michael’s store manager Jesus Romero donated the meat for the event.
