“These kids have worked hard, put in many hours on top of our already demanding schedule,” said GRHS head cheer coach Sarah Dains. “They are a group of kids excited for the opportunity to compete at the national level, but aren’t settling with just qualifying”.

The girls finished in sixth place at the state competition, but were only four points behind first place with a score of 79.39. According to the Arizona Interscholastic Association website, it is the highest finish at the state level in Gila Ridge history.

“They want to bring home some hardware,” Dains added.

The United Spirit Association provides specialized instruction and year-round events for spirit, dance and band auxiliary activities, according to their official website. Results and competition information for the national event can be accessed at https://www.usacamps.com/spiritnationals.
