Little Hawks playground remodel completed

Yuma Union High School District Career and Technical Education, Southwest Technical Education of Yuma (STEDY) and Gila Ridge High School have recently teamed up to complete a full remodel of the Little Hawks playground on campus.

The playground is used by the Early Childhood Education classes offered at GRHS through CTE. The course gives students an opportunity to interact and work with children that attend the Little Hawks Play School, under the guidance of CTE teacher Cristina Mercer.

“This beautiful new playground will be used as part of my student’s lab time, so our Little Hawks can apply their social development and gross motor skills,” said Mercer.

The idea of a renovation was two years in the making, but after breaking ground in October the project took less than one month to complete. Dave Bang Associates, one of the nation’s largest outdoor recreation equipment distributors, built and installed the playground for a cost of $138,082.29.

Parents can be added to a waitlist for the Little Hawks program by emailing Ms. Mercer ( Parents should provide their name, child’s name, date of birth and contact info in the email.
