Gila Ridge catcher and coach selected to AzBCA All-Star Game

Gila Ridge High School catcher Ramces Urias was selected to play in the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association ‘Academic All-Star Game’, which will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona. 

Gila Ridge head coach James Kuzniak was also selected to coach in the game, alongside Dobson High School head coach John Mikilus. The team consists of the top senior baseball players in the state who hold at least a 3.5 GPA.

Urias finished his senior season hitting .483 for the Hawks and was a First-Team All-Section member for the second-straight season. He was also voted to the Yuma Sun/Yuma Rotary Team for the second consecutive time. He will continue his educational and baseball career next year at Arizona Western College.

Kuzniak, who is in his first year as head coach, guided the Hawks to a 15-13 overall record and finished second in the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s 4A Southwest Region. While finishing the regular season on a seven-game winning streak the Hawks ended in the No. 24 spot in the state power rankings.

The Academic All-Star game will begin at 10 a.m. That evening will be the state 4A All-Star game.
