Nine GRHS students recognized as AP Scholars

Gila Ridge High School had nine students recognized as Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars based on their performance on AP exams by College Board, a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects students to college.

Five students were recognized as AP scholars, this recognition is given to students who score a three or higher on three or more AP exams.

Three students were recognized as AP Scholars with Honors, which means they received an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scored a three or higher on four or more exams.

Gila Ridge also had one student achieve the AP Scholar with Distinction title. This title is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores a three or higher on five or more AP exams.

“Gila Ridge is extremely excited that these students are being recognized as AP Scholars,” Gila Ridge Counseling Director Anastasia Dawson said. “Doing well on AP exams shows our students have mastered the college-level curriculum and allows them the possibility to earn credit at colleges and universities.”

Award winners are determined by two things: the student’s average AP Exam score which is calculated based on all exams taken this year and in previous years, and the student’s AP Exam scores which are checked to see which ones count toward the various AP Scholar Awards.

The College Board AP Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams every fall. The AP Scholar Awards are academic distinctions that students may cite among their credentials on applications and/or résumés.
