GRHS Spiritline camp team competes in UCA Cheer Camp
The Gila Ridge High School spiritline camp team attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) camp in Phoenix from June 30 - July 3, 2023 where they bonded as a team, competed, and learned new skills to take home.
The team earned the “spirit stick” all four days of camp, earned first place in sideline cheer, second place in camp performance, and second place in the overall small varsity game day competition.
“Throughout my two years of being selected and making All-American, I learned the values of leadership and commitment,” GRHS senior Makayla Mueller said. “I am very appreciative of my coaches and the UCA staff. I will cherish these accomplishments forever.”
Three members of the team made the All American Team. An All American Cheerleader is the epitome of a well rounded senior cheerleader and coach selected underclassmen. Three members also earned an award as part of the “Pin it Forward” program that is given by UCA staff to athletes who demonstrate leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness, and motivation.
“Our Hawks flew to Phoenix and came back with some new skills and trophies,” GRHS Spiritline Coach Jenae Bailey said. “It was a great way to jump start our upcoming season.”
The Gila Ridge High School spiritline team was fifth in state at the Arizona Cheer and Pom tournament in the 2022-23 season and won the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) show cheer state championship in 2021.
Their first sideline performance of the 2023-24 school year will take place on Friday, September 1 when the Hawks football program takes on Imperial in their season-opening game.
