YUHSD Class of 2020 earned nearly 400 industry certifications in ‘high-demand’ fields

SLHS engineering studentsYuma Union High School District Career & Technical Education (CTE) students from the Class of 2020 earned 399 industry certifications in “high demand” fields for the state of Arizona.  

Overall, 339 YUHSD students earned one certification and 30 YUHSD students earned two certifications. The total number of recognized industry credentials was nearly double those from Class of 2019 graduates, when YUHSD’s CTE students led the state with 196 credentials earned by 187 students.  

“We don’t know how YUHSD compares to the rest of Arizona yet for the Class of 2020,” YUHSD Executive Director of CTE Lorie Honeycutt said. “But I am incredibly proud of our students and their hardworking teachers for continuing to understand the value of both education and industry certification.”

According to Arizona at Work, in-demand positions in the state include construction, health care and social assistance, professional and technical service, information technology, finance and insurance, manufacturing, and transportation and warehousing. YUHSD offers CTE programming in medical fields, engineering, construction, and business among other areas.

YUHSD has 85 total CTE programs with a 100 percent graduation rate for CTE completers, meaning they completed the breadth of their respective program. In 2020-21, more than 8,000 students, making up more than 75% of the total student body, were enrolled in at least one CTE course.
