YUHSD schools start Thursday, August 5

The 2021-22 school year officially gets underway on Thursday, August 5 for families at all six Yuma Union High School District schools.

“Our campus and district teams work year ‘round to develop and offer the best of programming for teaching and learning, the arts, activities and athletics,” YUHSD Superintendent Gina Thompson said. “As we engage in this new year together, it is imperative that we approach each day as an opportunity for learning.”

For the first time in nearly 18 months, campuses will be operating under their traditional bell schedules with “early release” taking place on Mondays each week. School will start daily at 7:45 a.m. at Cibola, Gila Ridge, Kofa, and Yuma High, while San Luis High School will start at 7:30 a.m. and Vista High School begins at 8:30 a.m.

While students and staff return to a more “normal” school year than the past year and a half, the school district will continue to implement mitigations to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, including continued cleaning and disinfecting, limiting campus guests to essential visitors, and allowing students and faculty the option to wear face coverings. For access to the full COVID-19 mitigation plan, families are encouraged to visit and hover over the COVID-19 tab at the top of the page.

“Each of us is responsible for our actions and reactions in this environment where we learn to work through the pandemic of COVID19,” Thompson added. “Our goal is to remain in school, with teaching and learning our primary work.”
