YUHSD students medal at SkillsUSA, Educators Rising Nationals

Yuma Union High School District Career & Technical Education students once again thrived on the national stage, capturing top three finishes in multiple national events over the past month.

Kofa High School’s Jose Nunez-Rodriguez won a gold medal in the building maintenance competition at the SkillsUSA National Conference on June 24, while Yuma High School took home a silver in career pathway showcase: human services division, and San Luis High School won bronze in career pathway showcase: business and technology division.

The Yuma High team consisted of Jethzly Navarro-Fabela, Kimberly Perez-Bogarin, and Xavier Serna. The San Luis team consisted of Alfani Quintero-Rivera, Katya Padilla, and Alejandro Ramirez.

Three days later, at the Educators Rising National Conference, San Luis’ Alejandra Torres earned first place in impromptu lesson and Kofa’s Jennifer Carranza earned first place in creative lecture-TED Talk. Additionally, Gila Ridge High School’s Leanna Jean Clipper won second place in the exploring student support services careers competition.

Both 2021 conferences were held virtually due to ongoing health and safety protocols related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
