YUHSD schools to celebrate Class of 2021 graduation ceremonies
The Graduating Class of 2021 for Yuma Union High School District is expected to include more than 2,200 students who have met the Arizona and YUHSD requirements to receive their diplomas.
In-person Graduation ceremonies will take place on Friday, May 21, at 8 p.m. at each comprehensive high school, while Vista High School will host their graduation ceremony at Gila Ridge High School’s performing arts auditorium on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m.
YUHSD is committed to preparing every student to be successful in college, careers, and the community, and the graduating class of 2021 has earned more than $36.4 million in grants and scholarships to support their higher education goals. Additionally, dozens of students enlisted in U.S. Armed Services, including the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy.
“Graduation is an exciting time and a special moment for our students and their families,” San Luis High School Co-Principal Lucky Arvizo said. “Even though the last year and a half has been abnormal because of COVID, we are looking forward to celebrating our students' hard work and successes.
Due to continued mitigation efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19, guests will be limited to four individuals per student. Masks will be optional for graduates and guests, at outdoor YUHSD commencement ceremonies, per CDC guidance related to outdoor activities. Guests in attendance are expected to sit within their family “pod” and those who are unvaccinated should continue wearing a mask to protect themselves and others who have not yet had a chance to be vaccinated. As a reminder: commencement ceremonies in YUHSD are an optional activity provided by campus leadership and the YUHSD Governing Board.
All ceremonies will be livestreamed on each school’s Facebook page during the event. The following week, the recorded live stream will also be available on school and district websites and YUHSD’s YouTube account.
