YUHSD statement regarding CDC mask announcement

On May 13, the CDC announced that individuals who have been vaccinated are not required to wear a mask indoors. Here is YUHSD’s statement regarding their announcement and how it impacts our schools/graduations:

YUHSD appreciates the fact that our staff and families have been diligent in following CDC guidelines throughout the pandemic. We are aware of their announcement yesterday. However, their guidance for schools remains unchanged. We serve students. With consideration to the still vulnerable population in our community and the fact that most students have not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine, we will continue to require masks on campus through May 20, 2021.

Masks will be optional for graduates, guests, and staff, at outdoor YUHSD commencement ceremonies, per CDC guidance related to outdoor activities. We expect guests in attendance to sit within their family “pod” and for those who are unvaccinated to continue wearing a mask to protect themselves and others who have not yet had a chance to be vaccinated. As a reminder: commencement ceremonies in YUHSD are an optional activity provided by campus leadership and the YUHSD Governing Board.
