YUHSD adjusts attendance guidelines for winter sports following AIA changes

Yuma Union High School District athletic programs will allow four guests per student-athlete to attend winter athletic events, beginning Monday, Feb. 22, 2021.

This group of four includes two parents/guardians per student-athlete and two additional guests. All individuals attending who are under the age of 18 must be accompanied by his or her parent/guardian.

The change is the sixth adjustment required for Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) member schools to their winter sports schedules and attendance guidelines since Jan. 8, 2021, and comes following an AIA Executive Board Meeting last week, which determined, “at the discretion of the local site/school district, the host venue/home team may allow home/visiting spectators. The determination will be made based on executive orders, local jurisdiction, and guidance from local health authorities.”

YUHSD Athletic Directors have worked jointly with the City of Yuma and City of San Luis throughout the winter season to ensure the proper steps are taken for parents/guardians to attend competitions.

Each guest will be required to wear a face covering and adhere to necessary guidelines associated with COVID-19 mitigation protocols. They are also required to pay an entrance fee. Additionally, YUHSD will continue to make select games available via live streaming.
