YUHSD to return to in-person learning on March 1

The Yuma Union High School District Governing Board during a special meeting on Thursday, Feb. 11 voted unanimously to approve Superintendent Gina Thompson’s recommendation that all YUHSD campuses return to in-person learning five days per week, beginning Monday, Mar. 1, 2021.

Several factors went into the decision, including five consecutive weeks of downward trending COVID-19 metrics, the availability of COVID-19 vaccinations for staff, and the desire from over 63 percent of YUHSD families for children to return to school in person, according to recent survey administered by the district. Families are expected to make a choice between remaining in distance learning full-time or returning to school in person.

Further information regarding bell schedules, plans for students who remain in distance learning, and more will be disseminated to families next week. They were informed of the board’s decision Thursday night via the district’s Blackboard Connect messaging system.
