YUHSD to host virtual, district-wide science fair

Yuma Union High School District will host a district-wide virtual science fair on Feb. 11, 2021 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event is to allow students an opportunity to showcase their work after the 2021 Yuma County Science and Engineering Expo was canceled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the number of submissions and lack of available judges.

“This event will not only allow our students to prepare for SARSEF (Southern Arizona Research, Science, and Engineering Foundation),” Cibola High School science teacher Kimberly Adkins said, “but reward students in the district for their scientific interests and investigations.”

All schools in the district are invited to join and each school will only compete against themselves. Interested students are encouraged to sign up and turn in their poster and narrative at their respective school by Feb. 9.

The local event will also help YUHSD students prepare for the 2021 Regional SARSEF Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held virtually Mar. 1-6, 2021.
