YUHSD radio tour answers questions for families

With the start of the 2020-2021 school year fewer than seven weeks away, Yuma Union High School District leaders made various appearances on local radio stations to help reach families.

Beginning with an appearance on Jennifer Blackwell and Teresa Straub’s show on Z93 & Outlaw Country on June 18, YUHSD Superintendent Gina Thompson, Chief Communications Officer Eric Patten, and Director of Education Technology Melissa Ellegood have been guests on four shows over the past week.

Thompson’s interviews with Lou Gum from KAWC and Cody Beeson from KBLU will air on Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27, respectively, while she will also appear live on KBLU (AM 560) with Russ Clark at 7 a.m. on Friday.

“During this uncertain time, we are always looking for new ways to reach our families,” Thompson said. “Information is coming at a rapid pace, and using the airwaves to update the community is something we prioritized over the past few weeks.”

YUHSD leaders, including Thompson, will make regular appearances on those outlets in the next few months, and will also be joining La Campesina (FM 104.5) throughout the school year, beginning in July. In addition to the radio, YUHSD families can expect to receive weekly updates about the status of school beginning the week of July 6, including learning options and more. Those updates will be made through the Blackboard Connect Messaging system and will also be posted on yumaunion.org.
