YUHSD suspending in-person summer athletics as safety precaution

Effective Tuesday, June 23, 2020, Yuma Union High School District will be suspending all athletic programs' in-person summer activities.
The following is a statement from YUHSD Associate Superintendent Tim Brienza regarding the decision:
“We are acting in the best interest of the health and safety of our students and coaches. As responsible members of Yuma County, we are taking a proactive approach to being part of the solution as the spike in positive cases in the county continues to rise. While virtual meetings with our coaches and student-athletes will still take place during this time, no in-person activities will take place. We know this is another disappointment for our students and everyone looking forward to getting back to some form of normalcy. However, with newly announced requirements for mandatory face masks, a fast growing number of cases, and direct impact on our families, this is the necessary action.”
