Gila Ridge wins 21-day FAFSA Challenge

Gila Ridge High School was honored as the winner of the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education 21-Day Virtual Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Challenge Award for the 2019-20 school year.

In partnership with the Governor’s Office of Education and Achieve60AZ, this new competition was created to promote FAFSA completion while schools, students and the world have gone virtual. During this 21-day challenge, Gila Ridge accomplished an incredible feat by having the largest increase in completed FAFSA’s leading the state in its large senior enrollment category.

“Your school’s commitment to increase FAFSA completions among your students is recognized throughout Arizona,” FAFSA Challenge Project Coordinator Julie Sainz wrote in the award letter to GRHS administrators. “Thank you for going above-and-beyond to increase your school’s FAFSA completion rate and ensure more Arizona students are equipped to pursue postsecondary success.”

To celebrate this accomplishment, GRHS will be awarded a laptop to gift a current graduating senior that has completed their FAFSA.

Gila Ridge is the second Yuma Union High School District school to take a top prize in the state’s FAFSA Challenge. Earlier this month, San Luis High School was named as the overall winner in the large school enrollment category.
