YUHSD announces virtual recognition ceremonies for Class of 2020

The ongoing public health crisis around COVID-19 has greatly altered the high school experience for Yuma Union High School District families. No group has likely been more affected than our Class of 2020. While there is nothing that will replace the experience of the final two months for a high school senior, YUHSD leadership has worked diligently to come up with a comprehensive plan for a virtual recognition ceremony for seniors.

This is not meant to replace a physical graduation, and does not rule out a future date in which our campuses conduct a more traditional ceremony. However, during this time of mandated stay-at-home orders, it is a necessary step to avoid a large public celebration.

Beginning, Monday, May 18, YUHSD will begin Recognition Week. Each night one campus will showcase its Class of 2020 through a virtual ceremony on Facebook at The ceremonies will also be available on YUHSD’s official YouTube channel and the school and district websites at that time. Note: viewers do not need a Facebook account to view the ceremonies.

Each virtual ceremony will include a message from YUHSD Superintendent Gina Thompson and the school principal, speeches from students, an individual recognition of each student in the cohort, and more.
