Kofa JROTC PT team brings home first place at 29 Palms

PT team at 29 palms Kofa High School’s Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps added another trophy to their growing collection at the JROTC PT Meet hosted by Twentynine Palms on Feb. 22, 2020.

The co-ed mixed team featuring cadets Jonathan Silva, Jose Lopez, Joseph Felkner, Angel Lares, Daphne Rivera, and Ryleigh Crumbley, placed first in every event and took home the first place trophy amongst a very tough division of 11 teams.

The male team (Angel Lares, Richard Orozco, Dylan Lloyd, Nickolas Wissler, Diego Cota, and Tanner Garner) stepped it up and took first place in the obstacle event.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this great group of dedicated individuals,” said Maj. Todd Birney, one of Kofa’s JROTC instructors. “Thank you parents for letting and bringing these cadets to the 0600 practices three days a week. Your cadets represented Kofa well.”

It has been a banner year for Kofa’s JROTC program, which has captured multiple top five finishes in events, including six trophies from its rifle team, qualified for nationals, and was named a prestigious Naval Honor School in December.
