All YUHSD schools to administer ACT practice exams

Yuma Union High School District schools will administer practice ACT exams throughout parts of the week of Sept. 23-27, 2019. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will all participate in the practice test.

“The practice test will allow students to familiarize with ACT subject areas and gauge their strengths and weaknesses,” Gila Ridge High School Assistant Principal Lilian Campa said.

Below are the practice exam days for each campus (Note: each school has varying schedules during testing days. For questions about a school’s specific schedule, please contact the academic office on campus):

CHS: Tuesday and Wednesday

GRHS: Tuesday and Wednesday

KHS: Wednesday and Thursday

SLHS: Tuesday and Wednesday

VHS: One section daily. Tuesday through Friday

YHS: Wednesday and Thursday

The official test, which is taken by high school juniors each spring, will be conducted in March 2020.

YUHSD, with the financial support of Helios Education Foundation, has been implementing the ACT test for juniors for the past eight years. The practice exam is part of a process to help improve student scores district-wide. Several schools saw jumps in composite score data from 2017 to 2018 after the district announced a plan to focus on ACT scores as a way of measuring student achievement over time.

Additional information about the ACT exam is available on yumaunion.org under the “student resources” section as well as act.org.
