YUHSD finance department receives prestigious CAFR award

Yuma Union High School District’s finance department was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States. It is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting.

“Our relationship with our families, community stakeholders, and department of education is built on trust and honesty,” YUHSD Superintendent Gina Thompson said. “Transparency in all facets is something that we pride ourselves on at YUHSD because it is vitally important for our stakeholders to know how we are using our resources.”

YUHSD Governing Board President Phil Townsend and Chief Financial Officer Dianne Cordery were informed of the award via a personal letter from GFOA Director Michele Mark Levine. In the letter Levine states, “Attainment [of the certificate] represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) awarded YUHSD’s finance department at the end of the 2017 fiscal year with a certificate of excellence as well.
