Cibola culinary students earn top percentage in state on Technical Skills Assessment

Cibola High School culinary arts students taking the Arizona Technical Skills Assessment this spring passed with an average score of 93 percent, good for the highest percentage in the state.

More than 3,500 students across Arizona took the 2019 Culinary Arts Technical Skills Assessment, a 100-question test students must pass in order to complete the program sequence. Led by Culinary Teacher Tawny Saldana, Cibola students improved 11 percent in their average assessment score from a year ago. One-hundred percent of Cibola’s students passed, including one student earning a score of 98 percent.

All Career & Technical Education Technical Skills Assessments are developed by industry experts in the state of Arizona and all students take the exam at the end of the last year of the program sequence. For most CTE programs the TSA mirrors the industry credential or certification for the program, and indicates how successful a student will be on the industry certification written exam.
