Ed Foundation of Yuma hosting annual Teacher of the Year banquet on Apr. 23

The Education Foundation of Yuma County’s Teacher of the Year Banquet will be held at the Yuma Civic and Convention Center located at 1440 West Desert Hills Drive (off Avenue A south of 32nd Street). 

Tickets for this event must be purchased prior to the Banquet for $25 per person. Tickets will not be sold at the door. 

Contact the Yuma County Superintendent of Schools office at (928) 373-1006 to purchase tickets. The no-host reception will begin at 5 p.m. in the lobby of the Civic Center with the Banquet starting promptly at 6 p.m.

The banquet’s guest speaker will be the Arizona Education Foundation Teacher of the Year, Kareem Neal.

The night will include this year’s Hall of Fame honorees:

Frances Woodard Award -- Bruce Gwynn

Outstanding Organization -- 1st Bank Yuma

Founders' Award -- Dr. Greg Peare

Estelle Dingus Award -- George Apostol, Jr.

Additionally, this year’s NAU-Yuma 2019 Teachers of the Year are Dr. L. Ruth Whisler, NAU-Yuma Assistant Clinical Professor, Arts & Sciences Department; and Mrs. Judith M. Watkinson, NAU-Yuma Adjunct Professor, Education Department.

This year’s Arizona Western College 2019 Teachers of the Year are Fabiana Bowles, Professor of Nursing; and Alma Barrandey, Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education.

The High School Teacher of the Year award includes three teachers from Yuma Union High School District: Jessica Curry from Cibola High School, Christie Nicholson from Kofa High School, and Rocio Ruiz from Yuma High School.

The 2019 Yuma County Teacher of the Year will be named at this annual celebration of education and educators.
