Ramp closures on I-8 could impact YUHSD commuters

The Arizona Department of Transportation recently sent an advisory for drivers to plan ahead due to ramp closures and restrictions on Interstate 8 for Wednesday, Mar. 27 through Friday, Mar. 29.

The work is part of the I-8 pavement treatment project between Yuma and Maricopa counties. Some of the work could impact commuters traveling to and from Yuma Union High School District campuses before and after school.

The following restrictions will occur in Yuma from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning on March 27:

I-8 will be narrowed to one lane in both directions between Giss Parkway (Exit 1) and Foothills Boulevard (Exit 14). Motorists should anticipate a 3-mile lane restriction while crews progress through the work zone.

  • The west- and eastbound I-8 off- and on-ramps at Giss Parkway (Exit 1) will close intermittently.
  • The west- and eastbound I-8 off- and on-ramps at 16th street (Exit 2) will close intermittently between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.
  • The west- and eastbound I-8 off and on ramps at Avenue 3E (Exit 3) will close intermittently.
  • The west- and eastbound I-8 off and on ramps at Araby Road (Exit 7) will close intermittently.
  • The west- and eastbound I-8 off- and on-ramps at Avenue 8 1/2 E (Exit 9) will close intermittently.
  • The west- and eastbound I-8 off- and on-ramps at Fortuna Road (Exit 12) will close intermittently between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.
  • The west- and eastbound I-8 off- and on-ramps at Foothills Boulevard (Exit 14) will close intermittently.
  • A 12-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.
  • Alternate routes include using the preceding I-8 on-ramp or exit in the work zone.

Motorists should allow extra travel time and plan for possible delays while work is underway.
