The Kofa High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) program has recently partnered with middle schools across Yuma in an effort to educate students about the CTE opportunities they have available at KHS. 

“Being that a lot of our students come from Woodard Junior High School and Gila Vista Junior High School, they could not wait to show the students from their previous school what amazing technical skills that they had learned in their program,” Kofa CTE Instructional Leader Tiffany Tipton-Pavey said. “Our students, although trying to help middle school students understand possible career choices, have learned a lot themselves. We are hoping that this helps the junior high school students to understand their options both in high school and in their future career.”

The idea stemmed from the CTE Middle School Conference that the Yuma Union High School District CTE department regularly hosts for Yuma Elementary School District One and Crane middle schools. The KHS CTE team started thinking of ways to invest in future students through preparing them for what is next as well as setting the stage to help the YUHSD mission of " EVERY student college, career, and community prepared.”

The Kofa CTE department has several events planned through February 2024 with Woodard Junior High School, Gila Vista Junior High School, and Gowan Science Academy. Kofa CTE students will be teaching the junior high students about law and public safety, medical assisting, engineering, culinary, photography, education professions, welding, and more.

“It was a really good experience to teach the middle schoolers more about the law program,” Kofa CTE student Lalea Sandoval said. “It was cool that we were able to not only teach the kids, but have fun. It was a very impactful experience for us and the kids.”
