Cibola Senior earns Class of 2022 National Merit Scholarship
Congratulations to Cibola Senior Zarrin Askari for being named a finalist in the Class of 2022 National Merit Scholarship Corporation competition.
“Being named a finalist for this scholarship is a huge honor,” says Zarrin. “It opens countless post-secondary opportunities that I'm thrilled to take advantage of as I navigate my interests in environmental and civil engineering.”
According to the website, The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)—which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
“I am so proud of Zarrin,” says Kevin Swearingin, Cibola School counselor. “She has worked so hard in school to learn everything she can to be successful in her career goal. She has continually challenged herself by taking the most difficult courses our high school can offer, and has already taken many courses she will need for Arizona Western College towards her degree. Zarrin is a dynamo and will be solving issues we face in the future as a human race.”
