Yuma, AZ -Cibola student council attended the Arizona Association of Student Councils on January 23-25, 2020 at Buena Vista High School in Sierra Vista, AZ.  Cibola Student Council was named an “Outstanding Council of Distinction” at the AASC State Convention. This award is the highest award a council can earn In AZ. To achieve this award, councils must demonstrate exemplary service, charitable giving, & campus improvement & activities.

"It goes to show how much our effort, dedication, and service for our school and community pays off,” says McKenna Jerpseth, Cibola Student Body president.  “We work endlessly as a council and by doing school projects and spirit activities, we grow together and showcase our talents and mindsets as a family. We really appreciate the acknowledgement and the award; it pushes us to keep making these differences for our peers, school, and community."

According to the website, The Arizona Association of Student Councils was founded in 1934 by a group of educators who wanted to create an organization for student leaders that would encourage them to practice the democratic process, citizenship and service while fostering idea exchange and problem solving in the state's schools.

“It was rewarding to see the hard work that we all put in pay off in the highest form of recognition for an Arizona Student Council,” says Loren Henley, Cibola Student Council teachers.  “It's a lot of late nights, early mornings, and free time sacrificed to be in student council, but the hard work is worth it.”
