City of Yuma pavement project could impact Cibola traffic

The City of Yuma advised drivers that a pavement improvement project will get underway along 16th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C, beginning Friday, Nov. 1, 2019.

Commuters traveling to and from Cibola High School could be impacted and are encouraged to plan accordingly.

According to the City’s Capital Improvement Program document, “the existing pavement has deteriorated with severe cracking and abrasive block cracking, necessitating pavement replacement. The wastewater infrastructure in this segment of road is outdated. Replacing the infrastructure will prevent future failure and improve service levels.”

There will be one eastbound and one westbound lane open on 16th Street while construction is taking place.

Parents who are dropping off and/or picking up students, should allow extra time for reaching the campus. The school utilizes four drop off and pick up points:

  1. Main parking lot located on Cibola’s campus along 20th Street
  2. Softball parking lot located on 20th Street west of campus
  3. Valley Aquatic Center parking lot located near the corner of 18th Street and S. 45th Avenue
  4. Back parking lot located on the corner of 18th Street and Avenue C
