Cibola Senior named National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Congratulations to Cibola Senior Mohamed Abdella for being named a finalist in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Corporation competition.

“I would like to extend thanks to the National Merit Scholarship Committee for their immense generosity in giving me this award,” say Mohamed. “With their push and encouragement, I’m excited to begin my path through post-secondary education and pursue a career in medicine.”

According to the website, The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)—which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

“I am very proud and excited Mohamed has been named a National Merit Finalist,” says his school counselor Kari Lofton.  “This title serves as a true representation of his strong work ethic and gifted intelligence.  He is a young man with so much promise and who has the ability to make a large impact on society.  Mohamed Abdella is one-of-a-kind!”
