Cibola junior accepted to UA accounting summer program

Cibola High School junior Mayra Franquez Cota was accepted into the Business Career Awareness Summer Program at the University of Arizona for June 2019.

“I am surprised I was chosen because the competitiveness to get into this program is really high. It's almost as if I'm expecting an email in a few days that says ‘Happy late April fools,’” Franquez Cota said. “But more than anything, I'm ready for this summer so I can get to experience this great opportunity that was given to me.”

According to the website, Ernst & Young Global Limited has teamed with the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management School of Accountancy and the McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship to provide students who are underrepresented in undergraduate accounting classes with an opportunity to explore the accounting field and become involved in the Eller Community. Participants will leave BCAP a successful candidate for the accounting industry.

Events for the weeklong program include: Introductory accounting, finance, and ethics classes; a case study competition; networking opportunities; book scholarships; site visits to the EY office in Phoenix; UA campus tour; formal dinner etiquette training; and a closing banquet and celebration

“I'm hoping to learn about business and how things in the business world work beyond what I think happens in the day-to-day,” Franquez Cota added. “I also hope this experience will help me say by the end of the program ‘I'm 100 percent sure I want this to be my career’.”
