Cibola, Gila Ridge stand out at district AcaDec Scrimmage

Gila Ridge and Cibola high schools took home top honors at the Yuma Union High School District Academic Decathlon Scrimmage on Dec. 7-8, 2018. Kofa High School hosted the annual event.

Cibola finished as the top overall scoring team, amassing 33,000 points. Gila Ridge won the Super Quiz Relay event.

The teams are made up of sophomores through seniors assembled from students in Academic Decathlon classes. Cibola's adviser is Dan Zarbock, while Gila Ridge is advised by Tricia Ellsworth.

“These kids have worked hard to prepare for this scrimmage and this will help us for our upcoming regionals,” said Ellsworth. “We have made state every year and that is quite an accomplishment and our goal is to do so again this year.”

The regional competition will be held the first weekend in February at Flowing Wells High School in Tucson.
