Cibola Senior earns Class of 2023 National Merit Scholarship

Congratulations to Cibola Senior Hailey Chulamorkodt for being named a finalist in the Class of 2023 National Merit Scholarship Corporation competition.

"I am incredibly grateful to have been selected as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist," says Hailey.  "I sincerely appreciate all the help I've had along the way to reach this milestone. It truly means the world to me!"

According to the website, The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)—which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

“Hailey has worked really hard throughout her high school career,” says Kevin Swearingin, Cibola School counselor.  “She is the most academically prolific student I have ever worked with in my 15 years as a high school counselor.  She has taken almost all of her classes in Advanced Placement or from our local community college...and has earned A's all along the way.  Most important to me is that through it all, she continues to smile, laugh, and find her place in this world.”

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance.  Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 410 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
