Special Services department holding Child Find informational meeting on Oct. 4

Yuma Union High School District will hold an informational meeting about Child Find on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at 5 p.m. The meeting will take place in the YUHSD district office’s professional development conference room located at 3150 South Avenue A.

Child Find, which is part of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) protecting students with disabilities, is a legal requirement for schools to find children who have disabilities and need services. Identifying these children is an important first step toward getting them the help they need to succeed in school.

YUHSD offers screening to locate, identify, and evaluate all children who may have a disability as part of its child find efforts.

Suman Pangasa, YUHSD Executive Director of Student Services, said, “If you are a parent or guardian of a student who is currently homeschooled or privately placed who has a disability or that you suspect may have difficulty with learning, communication, vision, hearing, behavior, or motor control and coordination, please contact our special education department or attend our meeting on October 4.”

Yuma Union High School District Special Services can be reached at (928) 502-6752 for further information.
