Former SLHS Student receives CAMP Student Champion Award
Ricardo Villa Vierry, a 2017 graduate of San Luis High School, received the 2018 College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) Student Champion Award on Nov. 6, 2018 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
CAMP is a collegiate program designed to provide academic, personal and financial support during the first year of college, to students from migrant and farm-working backgrounds. Villa Vierry is part of CAMP through Arizona State University.
Villa Vierry, who is known as “Ricky,” graduated in the top 10 of his class at SLHS and is a first-generation college student. He was recognized for outstanding achievement and commitment to excellence by CAMP.
“I feel proud of Ricky because his skills, talents, and knowledge were not just a gift in his life, but he used them wisely,” SLHS Counselor Maria Dillard said. “Kids like Ricky remind us that believing in people does bring forth fruit and that's the reason why I am a counselor.”
