Yellow Ribbon Week at Vista High School
Vista High School teachers and students got together to help spread suicide awareness on campus and in the community.
Among other things, students and teachers participated in a Yellow Ribbon Helping Hands board intended to spread uplifting messages.
Mayra Navarro, Yellow Ribbon Committee Chair, said, “We want to start a conversation and dispel the myth that talking about this topic is harmful. We also want our students to know that anyone can be a link and they can help someone change their mindset by saying kind words, suggesting self-care activities, and suggesting ways to connect.”
VHS Yellow Ribbon Committee member and school social worker, Devin Sioma said, “Our campus team is dedicated to relaying this message in positive ways. We hope to spread awareness and show our students that there's always a helping hand reaching out to offer support if they are struggling.”
The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program is dedicated to preventing suicide and attempts by Making Suicide Prevention Accessible to everyone and removing barriers to help. If you need to reach out to someone right now you can call: 800-273-TALK (8255) or text 'Help' to 741741.
