San Luis High School student accepted to two military academies

San Luis High School senior Nathania Nuno has been accepted to both the United States Military Academy West Point and Air Force, both known for their excellence and rigorous standards for admission.  She received nominations from Congressman Raul Grijalva and Senator John McCain.

A recognition ceremony for Nuno is being held on Monday, March 13 at San Luis from 1-1:30, with Joe Britain, U.S. Navy Retired, and Martha Garcia from Congressman Grijalva's office, and Principal Tammy Ray.

Nuno received nominations from Congressman Raul Grijalva and Senator John McCain. Nuno has strong academic, military leadership, and athletic skills. The awards are more than $400,000.  Included in that amount is fully paid tuition, cost-free room and board, cost-free medical care, monthly stipend, interest-free loans to cover emergency situations if necessary, and access to a low-cost, government-sponsored life insurance program.

Nuno was born and raised in San Luis, Arizona by her father Javier Nuno, an Army veteran and San Luis Police Department captain, and currently a Welton Police Department Lieutenant. Nuno’s family is excited and waiting to hear if she has been accepted to three more academies: Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and US Naval.

Nuno plans on making her final decision by the end of the school year.
