Patriot Game recap

Yuma High School hosted their fourth annual Patriot baseball game against Gila Ridge High School with the help of YHS Student Council on Tuesday, April 10, 2018.

“This is a game dedicated to former and current military service members in our community,” YHS student council advisor Sarah Harlan said. “It shows Yuma High’s support for our military and their efforts to keep our country safe.”

The Patriot Game is put on every year in partnership with Marine Corps Air Station Yuma to maintain a supportive environment between Yuma High, local service members, and the Yuma community as a whole. Student Council facilitated a fun and patriotic environment for their guests from MCAS. They funded the patriotic field paint and grilled hot dogs for the spectators. They also handed out Criminal merchandise to volunteers and service members and hosted games for children and adults.

Arizona wrestling coach of the year Jeff Welsing and Cpl. Cano of MCAS both threw out the game’s first pitch. The Hawks defeated the Criminals, 6-0.

Coaches and MCAS personnel meet at home plate.
