Yuma High wins $1,000 in ‘Dairy Month’ Sweepstakes

Yuma High School was chosen as a recipient of a $1,000 award as part of Albertsons/Safeway/Vons June Dairy Month Sweepstakes.

According to YHS Principal Mike Fritz, the money, which was received this week, will be used to help grow the collection of books available for students in the school’s library.

“We are grateful to the individual who nominated Yuma High School and to Albertsons for selecting us,” Fritz said. “Any opportunity to inject funds back into our library collection, and promote literacy and reading, is a big win for our school and our students.”

Throughout the month, the grocery chain promotes the dairy department through various means, including offering customers an opportunity to nominate schools of their choice. According to Albertsons Marketing Specialist Diana Bible, a contest was included where customers could purchase $10 in dairy products in a single transaction and receive on their receipt a website to go nominate their school for the $1,000 grant.

Yuma High was one of 50 schools selected across the southwest.
