YHS Cell Block dancers choreograph spring show based on real-life experiences

Yuma High School’s Cell Block Dancers present their spring show: “The Next Step.”

The performance will run Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3 in Snider Auditorium at Yuma High. Both shows will start promptly at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $5.

The show was choreographed wholly by the students set to perform in it. The concept behind the performance’s theme is to showcase the different walks of life. College, Careers, Starting a Family, Death and Pain, Wrong Choices, Finding Yourself, and redemption through Truth are central themes. It’s a show about celebrating the virtuous successes in life while overcoming from the adversity that comes with it.

“The really great thing about the performance is that the show has been inspired by the dance students,” show director Dawn Lawson said. “The seniors came together, and brainstormed about six different categories to showcase different avenues that life takes you down.”
