Yuma High CTE sends three to SkillsUSA officer interviews

Yuma High School’s Career & Technical Education program took three students to SkillsUSA officer interviews on Saturday, Mar. 16, 2019 in Phoenix. It is the first step in the process of running for state officer.

Cassandra Chavez Lopez, Jasmine Perez, and Jesus Gonzalez Lopez attended, and are looking to be elected. This is the first time YHS has had candidates run for state office in SkillsUSA.

“I really would like to be a part of SkillsUSA [leadership],” Gonzalez Lopez said. “SkillsUSA has changed my life, and if elected my goal is to help others become influenced in the same positive manner as I have been.”

The interview process is just the start.

“The Board of Directors will ask us questions after we introduce ourselves. They’ll ask us why we are running for state office, as well the important components of SkillsUSA,” Perez said.

After the interview process the students are then selected by the committee to run for an office. The committee, based on the student qualifications and interview, will determine which office best suits each candidate.
