Vista FBLA goes to Regional Competition

A brand new semester has begun at Vista Alternative High School and that means new members in the VAHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). The new members along with the previous members tested their mettle as 12 of them went to an all-day competition at Arizona State University West this on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019.

There were skills-knowledge based exams that the students took, such as organizational leadership, business law, and personal finance. There were presentation events that the students competed in such as Public Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Hospitality Management, and Emerging Business Issues.

“Regionals is a great way for us to present in front of judges, so we can prepare for the State Competition,” VAHS business teacher and FBLA adviser Tammy Pixley said. “Winners from the state conference continue on to Nationals, which is in San Antonio this June.”

FBLA Arizona is divided into four regionals; the FBLA team at VAHS are in region 4, which includes 41 schools.

Business is one of several Career & Technical Education courses available at VAHS. CTE courses were first offered at VAHS beginning in the 2017-18 school year.
