Vista High School held its annual winter graduation on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022 in Snider Auditorium on the Yuma High School campus.

Yuma Union High School District Governing Board President Phil Townsend confirmed the group of 51 graduates prior to the distribution of their diplomas. YUHSD Governing Board Member Jacqueline Kravitz, Superintendent Gina Thompson, and Associate Superintendent Dianne Cordery were also on-hand to represent the district.

“Seeing all of us here right now is a big accomplishment for each and every one of us,” said VHS senior Julian Sanchez-Gomez, who was an early graduate and one of two students to speak at the ceremony. “We all worked so hard throughout our years of high school. We have gone through trials and tribulations and still made it through. Some of you may continue studying or go straight to work, maybe both like me; but whatever path you choose, never give up.” 

In addition to Sanchez-Gomez, senior Aundrea (Snow) Adams and VHS teacher Hillary Brown spoke to the graduates. VHS Principal Brett Surguine delivered the final speech to graduates, celebrating their accomplishments and imploring them to continue striving for success.  

“I am so excited for you. I am so excited to celebrate your achievements,” said Surguine. “Your teachers are very proud of you. Your families are here and are proud of you. Your friends are proud of you and I am proud of you. I hope you enjoy this moment and I hope you strive for more achievements of every kind.”
