Victoria Clark commits to AWC women’s soccer program

Victoria Clark in a game against Yuma San Luis High School senior Victoria Clark has committed to play soccer at Arizona Western College next season.

"Victoria demonstrates great intelligence, and she is extremely coachable with a personality that will help her accomplish great things,” AWC women’s soccer coach Ivan Dizdar said. “Her hard-working mentality translates to her being very attacking-minded with a great soccer I.Q. Her combination of speed and finishing skills will make her a force at the collegiate level. We are happy to have her play at Arizona Western College and we are excited to see the community support her as a Matador."

Clark, who has played on the San Luis varsity team since her freshman year, was the 6A Southwest Region Player of the Year in 2018-19 after totaling 18 goals and 9 assists. While leading the Sidewinders in goals for two seasons, she also helped lead the team to the Chandler Prep Winter Classic tournament championship in 2017.

"My best experience while playing at SLHS would have to be making unforgettable memories with my teammates along with my coach Gerardo Huerta,” Clark said. “Throughout my years at San Luis, I made great friendships and was lucky enough to play by my friends’ side on the field. Gaining more experience here and working extra hard is what helped me get to where I am today."

As part of her commitment to AWC, Clark will receive a scholarship from the college.

“I feel extremely fortunate and honored to get to improve both my athletic and academic career at AWC,” Clark added. “Staying close to my family and still being able to continue living my dream is the best. When attending AWC, I wish to work on my education by finishing [general education] and later on with God's help, pursue my dream career of becoming an occupational therapist."

Last season, AWC had nine players on its women’s soccer roster from Yuma Union High School District programs. However, next season Clark will become the first AWC women’s soccer commit from San Luis since Montserrat Rodriguez in 2014.
