SLHS to transition to distance learning only

San Luis High School will transition into virtual learning for all students beginning Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020 due to six positive COVID-19 cases within the campus.

Students with last name’s beginning with letters A-L will be permitted to return to school on Monday, Nov. 30, while students with a last name beginning with M-Z may return on Thursday, Dec. 2.

The SLHS student nutrition department will continue to provide drive-thru breakfast and lunch services from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, additional on-site services will not be available during this time, including the suspension of winter athletics practices and after-school extracurricular activities.

COVID-19 is thought to be spread via person-to-person contact through contaminated air droplets from coughing and sneezing by an infected person. As with controlling the spread of other viruses, we urge everyone to take the following preventive measures:

  • Wash your hands regularly, especially after using the restroom and before preparing or consuming food. Using soap and warm water, wash for about 20 seconds. Be sure to wash your fingertips.
  • Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue away. If you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your arm.
  • As much as you can, avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.

The symptoms of coronavirus are similar to the regular seasonal influenza and include fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Some people with coronavirus have reported additional symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. In some situations, the virus can develop into pneumonia.
