SLHS Welding visits Universal Technical Institute

SLHS student trying technology at UTI On Oct. 25, 2019, San Luis High School vocational welding students visited Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix.

UTI is a leading provider of training that prepares students for careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle, marine CNC machining and welding technicians.

"It’s beneficial for the students to have the opportunity to be able to attend events like these, to explore what options they have after high school to further their education," said SLHS welding advisor Zachary Kelly.

SLHS vocational welding students received a tour of the campus that focused primarily on a new state-of-the-art welding program, as well as information on post-secondary options at UTI upon graduation. They also got to participate in some hands-on activities throughout the day.

The trip was one of several industry opportunities that SLHS welding has taken part in over the past year, including creating a sign for the Gowan Company in the spring.
